 2016 Preview

Gordo completed the 2015 season with a 12-1 record. The Green Wave cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Gordo captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 3A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Gordo lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Bayside Academy team by a score of 17-14.

The high-scoring Gordo offense ranked 15th in the AHSAA. They averaged 41.6 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Green Wave have gone 25-2 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Gordo has gone a combined 60-15. Their 80.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Gordo has gone a combined 214-89. Their 71.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 3A and 23rd in the AHSAA. The Green Wave have been successful on the football field with twenty-four winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 1992.

The Green Wave are led by head coach Ryan Lolley who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 32-6 over the past three seasons at Gordo. Under his direction the Green Wave have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Lolley.

Coach Lolley's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 32-6 (84.2%).

The Gordo Green Wave will play in Class 3A region four during the 2016 season.

The Green Wave enter the 2016 season riding a 20 game regular season winning streak. Gordo has won 17 consecutive region games.

While most teams rebuild during the off season, Gordo has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Green Wave should be considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Green Wave have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2000 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

The Green Wave have put together a streak of 23 consecutive winning seasons and hope to extend that streak in 2016.

The Green Wave open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Fayette County on Thursday, August 18 at Green Wave Stadium. Last year the Fayette County Tigers finished with an overall record of 10-5 and in second place in Class 4A region five. The Tigers lost in the Class 4A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Leeds. They final score was 55-7 in the Super Seven finals in Auburn.

Gordo and Fayette County have met a total of 77 times on the football field. The Green Wave have a 33-42-2 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2015 with Gordo winning by a score of 19-14.

Gordo returns 3A All-State Junior athlete Collin Herring. He was named to the second team last season. The Green Wave also return Senior quarterback Koy Chapman. He was named to the second team.

College prospects include: Koy Chapman (, 0) quarterback, Pat Manning (5-9, 170) cornerback,
