 2016 Preview

Talladega finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-7 record. Last year Talladega finished sixth in Class 5A region three with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 1995 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history.

Talladega was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Tigers want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.1 points a game.

The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-14 record. Since 2010, the Talladega football program has struggled with a record of 13-45.

Over the past 25 seasons, Talladega has not won much with a record of 61-191. Their 24.0% winning percentage ranks 56th in Class 5A and 369th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 1994.

The Tigers are led by head coach Robert Herring Jr. who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-21 over the past three seasons at Talladega. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Herring Jr..

Coach Herring Jr.'s overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 7-21 (25.0%).

The Talladega Tigers will play in Class 5A region four during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 5A but move from region three over to region four.

The Tigers enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 6 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

This season, the Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four.

The Tigers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Oxford on Friday, August 19 at Lamar Field. Last year the Oxford Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fourth place in Class 6A region three. The Yellow Jackets closed out the regular season with a loss to Decatur by a score of 35-14.

Talladega and Oxford have met a total of 53 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 18-32-3 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2003 with Oxford winning by a score of 31-0.
