2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ardmore finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Ardmore finished seventh in Class 5A region eight with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2017. Ardmore struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 39.9 points a game. Since 2010, Ardmore has gone a combined 26-45. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 5A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Ardmore has not won much with a record of 76-187. Their 29.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 5A and 346th in the AHSAA. Clint Legg resigned his position as head football coach in late July to accept a job as the East Limestone assistant principal. His teams at Ardmore finished a combined 14-27 in four years. Andrew Smith takes over at Ardmore in 2017. The Ardmore Tigers will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2017 season. The Tigers enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 6 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Tigers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season. Ardmore has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2013 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Tigers open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Elkmont on Friday, September 1 at Boss Hill Stadium. Last year the Elkmont Red Devils finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in eighth place in Class 3A region eight. Ardmore and Elkmont have met a total of 78 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 51-27-0 record against the Red Devils. They last met in 2016 with Ardmore winning by a score of 49-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
