 2017 Preview 


       Auburn completed the 2016 season with a 8-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 7A region two, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Auburn reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Central Phenix City by a score of 48-9.

       Since 2010, Auburn has gone a combined 59-23. Their 72.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 7A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Auburn has managed to compile a record of 171-111. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 7A and 86th in the AHSAA.

       The Tigers are led by head coach Adam Winegarden who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 15-9 over the past two seasons at Auburn. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Winegarden.

       Coach Winegarden's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 64-20 (76.2%). Over the course of his career, Coach Winegarden's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times and won three region championships.

       The Auburn Tigers will play in Class 7A region two during the 2017 season.

       The Tigers enter the 2017 season riding a 5 game regular season winning streak.

       The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2000 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2017.

       The Tigers open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Carver Montgomery on Friday, August 25 at Cramton Bowl. Last year the Carver Montgomery Wolverines finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in third place in Class 6A region two. The Wolverines lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Spanish Fort by a score of 23-22.

       Auburn and Carver Montgomery have met a total of 17 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 11-6-0 record against the Wolverines. They last met in 2016 with Auburn winning by a score of 17-14.

       Auburn returns 7A All-State Senior defensive back Avery Atkins. He was named to the second team last season. The Tigers also return Senior running back Garrett Morris. He was named to the first team.
