 2017 Preview

Autaugaville finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Autaugaville finished sixth in Class 1A region three with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The defense allowed a team record 580 points last season.

Autaugaville was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Eagles want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.4 points a game.

Autaugaville struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 58.0 points a game.

Since 2010, Autaugaville has gone a combined 33-41. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Autaugaville has managed to compile a record of 158-120. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 1A and 114th in the AHSAA.

The Eagles are led by head coach Leon Walker who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Autaugaville. The Eagles have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Walker.

Coach Walker's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 2-8 (20.0%).

The Autaugaville Eagles will play in Class 1A region three during the 2017 season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Eagles if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. After just 2 wins last year, Autaugaville will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

Sophomore Ferontay Cutler returns after rushing for 531 yards on 127 carries and scoring 4 touchdowns. He also gained 58 yards receiving.

The Eagles open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent McIntosh on Friday, September 1 at H.H. Wiggins Field. Last year the McIntosh Demons finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 1A region one. The Demons closed out the regular season with a loss to J.U. Blacksher by a score of 58-6.

This will be the first meeting between Autaugaville and McIntosh on the football field.
