2017 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Prattville finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 2-7 record. Last year Prattville just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 7A region two with a 2-4 region record. Prattville took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 1998. The Lions lost as many games as in any season since 1994. The defense allowed a team record 348 points last season. Prattville struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 38.7 points a game. Since 2010, Prattville has gone a combined 51-27. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 7A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Prattville has gone a combined 225-75. Their 75.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 7A and 10th in the AHSAA. The Lions have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. The Lions are led by head coach Chad Anderson who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 31-21 over the past five seasons at Prattville. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Anderson. Coach Anderson's overall record as a head football coach in thirteen season stands at 85-55 (60.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Anderson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won one region championship. A 2-7 record for the Lions last year was the worst effort since they finished 1-9 way back in 1972. The Prattville Lions will play in Class 7A region two during the 2017 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Lions could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season. Prattville missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2017. The Lions open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Wetumpka on Friday, August 25 at Hohenburg Field. Last year the Wetumpka Indians finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in third place in Class 6A region three. The Indians lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to McAdory by a score of 24-7. Prattville and Wetumpka have met a total of 59 times on the football field. The Lions have a 29-28-2 record against the Indians. They last met in 2016 with Wetumpka winning by a score of 55-53. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
