Super Bowl XLIII

The 12-4 Pittsburgh Steelers will square off against the 9-7 Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII on Sunday in Tampa, Fla. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., and the game will be televised on NBC.

It should come as no surprise that more than a few players with ties to the state of Alabama have helped their respective teams make it to this year’s Super Bowl.

The Steelers and the Cardinals have a total of 116 players on their rosters and of that number three were born in Alabama, three played high school football in the state and seven played college ball in the state.

Tim Castille, who plays fullback for the Cardinals, was born in Phenix City and played high school football at Briarwood Christian School in Birmingham. Castille, 24, played college football at Alabama and is in his second season as a pro. Castille, 5-11, 242, wears the No. 46 jersey for the Cardinals.


Karlos Dansby, who plays outside linebacker for the Cardinals, was born in Birmingham and played high school football at Woodlawn High School in Birmingham. Dansby, 27, played college football at Auburn and is in his fifth season as a pro. Dansby, 6-4, 250, wears the No. 58 jersey for the Cardinals.

Anthony Madison, who plays defensive back for the Steelers, was born in Thomasville and played high school football at Thomasville High School. Madison, 27, played college football at the University of Alabama and is in his third season as a pro. Madison, 5-9, 180, wears the No. 37 jersey for the Steelers.

Fernando Bryant, who plays defensive back for the Steelers, was born in Albany, Ga. and played high school football at Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Bryant, 31, played college football at the University of Alabama and is in his tenth season as a pro. Bryant, 5-11, 184, wears the No. 31 jersey for the Steelers.

Kendall Simmons, who plays guard for the Steelers, was born in Ripley, Miss. and played high school football at Ripley High School. Simmons, 29, played college football at Auburn and is in his seventh season as a pro. Simmons, 6-3, 315, wears the No. 73 jersey for the Steelers.

Deshea Townsend, who plays cornerback for the Steelers, was born in Batesville, Miss. and played high school football at South Panola High School in Batesville. Townsend, 33, played college football at Alabama and is in his 11th season as a pro. Townsend, 5-10, 190, wears the No. 26 jersey for the Steelers.

Roderick Hood, who plays cornerback for the Cardinals, was born in Columbus, Ga. and played high school football at Carver High School in Columbus. Hood, 27, played college football at Auburn and is in his sixth season as a pro. Hood, 5-11, 198, wears the No. 26 jersey for the Cardinals.
