 The 1951 Bessemer City Purple Tigers were chosen Class 3A State Champions by the Birmingham News
 

 
 

Team Captains Joe Autry and Jimmy Adams accepted the Birmingham News State Championship trophy from Cliff Harper, executive secretary of the Alabama High School Athletic Association following the 1951 season.

The Purple Tigers were also led by junior All-State and All-Southern player Frank Christy who starred at tackle for the team.
