The 1951 Elba Tigers were chosen Class AA State Champions by the Birmingham News from District 1.
The 1951 Elba Tigers were awarded the Class 2A Region 1 state championship by the Birmingham News for their undefeated season. The Tigers played many close games in 1951 but none bigger than the one against Opp. Opp entered the fourth game of the season riding a ten game winning streak and eyeing a state title.
The game, played in Opp, was not decided until Bowdin scored on a five yard run in the final period and R. Marier ran off tackle for the point after. Opp had scored their lone touchdown in the second period when Nelson ran 3 yards after a 24 yard pass from Jones to McCallon a ten play drive covering 80 yards.
The Bobcats try for the extra point on a run came up short. Just one week prior Opp had ended Floralas 12 game winning streak.
