The 1959 Haleyville Lions were chosen Class AA State Champions by the Birmingham News from District 4.

The 1959 Haleyville Lions won the Birmingham News District 4 state championship. With a high powered offense, the Lions were led by all-state halfback Gus Garrard who made runs of at least 60 yards in every game during the season. He also averaged 7.9 yards per carry.

Bobby Little anchored the defensive line for the Lions all season as they allowed only 111 points in their 10 victories.

Only the Russellville (19-13) and Fayette County (25-19) games were relatively close. The other eight wins were rather easier for the Lions.
