Summary:

David Adkins would boot three field goals to snap the state's longest winning streak as Marion County edged Addison 17-14 to claim the Class 1A state championship. The three kicks by Adkins were from 25,41 and 37 yards with the last coming with five minutes remaining in the game to break the 14-14 tie.
A one yard run and an ensuing two point conversion accounting for all the Marion County scoring. Terryy Stallings, Addison star halfback, was lost for the game following an injury in the third quarter which would hamper Addison's hopes of repeating. Addison had won 25 games in a row coming into the contest.
This would be the first of three consecutive championships for Marion County while Addison was making their second straight title game appearance as they won the 1A championship last season with a win over Susan Moore.
