Summary:

The Ashford Yellow Jackets came up short on a two point conversion attempt and Lauderdale County reigned as the 1974 Class 2A state champions in a thrilling 14-13 win. Mike Roberson scored a touchdown for the Tigers on a ten yard run and James Haney got the other score on a 97 yard punt return.
Jimmy Addirs scored on two short runs for Ashford in the second half but it was not enough for the Yellow Jackets. Ashford went for two after the second touchdown hoping to win the game at that point but a quarterback sneak came up just short of the goal line. Lauderdale County intercepted two Ashford passes late to seal the win.
This was Lauderdale County's first state title after losing first round playoff games the past two seasons. The Yellow Jackets were making their first playoff appearance ever.
Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

In 1969 the two point conversion was adopted for play following a touchdown. Until that time all conversions were worth one point.
