Summary:
            
Running back Freddie Smith ran for a pair of touchdowns, including ripping off an 80 yard run, to lead the Golden Eagles to the Class 3A state championship 35-15 over Andalusia. Smith gained 148 yards on 21 carries for the evening. Teammate Adolph Cosby also scored two touchdowns on runs of 16 and 25 yards.
             Steve Parker would get the Eagles last touchdown on a 32 yard run. Andalusia would get on the scoreboard in the second quarter when Bobby Johnson scored on a one yard run. The Bulldog's only other score came late in the game on a John Anderson 16 yard run.
             For Athens, it would be their first playoff championship in two appearances in the playoffs. Andalusia would reach the finals for the first time after coming up short the past two seasons.
