Summary:
            Patrick Williamson ran for 84 yards on 17 carries and the go ahead touchdown one minute before halftime. Hazlewood would score with just over three minutes left in the game to tighten the score but would fumble away any chance for a victory on the first play of they next possession and St. Clair County could begin celebrating their first ever state crown.
            The St. Clair County defense would force four Hazlewood turnovers to win the 2A state title. the Fighting Saints capped off a remarkable 15-0 season only two years after going 1-9. For Hazlewood it was the end of a string of five consecutive state titles and a 29 game playoff winning streak. The Golden Bears had won a total of ten championships since 1970.

Foley outscored their opponents 433-6 in 1961. The Lions were named state champions by the Alabama Sports Writers Association that season.
