A battle of the big cats. The 1964 Monroe County Tigers vs. the Excel Panthers game was another in a long line of games between the county rivals. Monroe County entered the game having won the last five games against Excel. The two teams played every season from 1949-1968 and have played sporadically over the last few decades. Monroe County holds a 26-13-3 advantage all time in the series according to our records.

The game was played on October 9th in Monroeville. The 1964 edition of the Monroe County Tigers were led by Coy Tatum, an all state honorable mention as selected by the Birmingham News and Birmingham Post-Herald.

Monroe County entered the game with a 1-3 record after losing their first three games before rebounding for a 20-0 win over Escambia County. The Tigers would finish the season at 5-5 against some very tough competition.
