Jacksonville boys basketball coach Ryan Chambless was relieved of his coaching duties last Friday by Jacksonville City School Superintendent Dr. Mark Petersen.
Chambless and Jacksonville High School athletics director David Clark both confirmed the decision Tuesday. A phone call to Petersen was not returned immediately.
Chambless said he was not told why he was relieved of his coaching duties.
He led the Golden Eagles to an 8-15 record this past season and they were eliminated by White Plains in the first round of the Class 4A, Area 11 tournament.
Chambless has been at Jacksonville for seven years and just finished his third season coaching the boys team. Before that he coached the girls team for five seasons until stepping down in 2015. He coached both the boys and the girls during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons until this past season, when he coached only the boys and Tres Buzan took over the girls coaching duties.
