            Played defensive tackle on the varsity football team three years. Named Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Lineman on his team, Jefferson County Lineman of the Year, and earned All-County and All-Metro Team honors. Also participated in wrestling.

In 1970 Monroe Academy won the first championship in the A.I.S.A. by defeating Lowndes Academy 6-0.
