Compton was named All Blackbelt Conference end 1953-54-55; Montgomery Advertiser All-State 1954-55; Birmingham News All-State 1955; All-State basketball 1955- 56; All Blackbelt Conference basketball 1952-53, 1954-55, 1955-56. Besides football and basketball, William Lee played baseball. He played four years varsity football. His specialty was pass receiving - equally good on defense and downfield blocking. Grid statistics: 13 touchdown passes.

Luverne 'Toad' Wise was the first female football player in Alabama and may have been the first in the country. She was a kicker for the Escambia County Blue Devils in 1939-40.
