Rice was named All-South Alabama Conference at tackle in 1956, All-State at tackle in 1956, All-SAC at fullback in 1957, second team All-State at fullback in 1957. He played varsity football four years, served as co-captain last Fall, and lettered in track. As a fullback, he gained 857 yards for a 502-yard average.
