 High School Bio:

            Nelson was named All-Tennessee Valley Conference, Thom McAn Athletic Award. He also participated in basketball, track, and swimming. He played varsity football three years, shining on offense and defense. As a senior, he intercepted eight passes, totaled 14 touchdowns and, against Athens, rushed for 174 yards.

In 1969 the two point conversion was adopted for play following a touchdown. Until that time all conversions were worth one point.
