            Mitchell was named Two years All-Tri Cities, All-Conference and All-State; plus All-Southern and All-America senior year. Teams Most Valuable Lineman… Also Tri-Cities and Tennessee Valley Conference shot put champ… Played three years varsity football, captained team senior year and handled place-kicking.





Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Luverne 'Toad' Wise was the first female football player in Alabama and may have been the first in the country. She was a kicker for the Escambia County Blue Devils in 1939-40.
