Last year Curry finished sixth in Class 4A region 5 with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, Curry has gone a combined 12-49. Their 20.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 5A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Curry has not won much with a record of 77-183. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 5A and 344th in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Philip Smith who is entering his first season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Curry. The Yellow Jackets have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Smith. Coach Smith's overall record as a head football coach in ten seasons stands at 68-44 (60.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Smith's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times and won one region championship. The Curry Yellow Jackets will play in Class 5A region 6 during the 2016 season. The Yellow Jackets move up in classification to Class 5A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. This season, the Yellow Jackets will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in Region 6. The Yellow Jackets open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Berry Fayette on Friday, August 19 at Hudson/ORear Field. Last year the Berry Fayette Wildcats finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in first place in Class 1A region 6. The Wildcats lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Decatur Heritage Christian by a score of 32-26. Curry and Berry Fayette have met a total of 7 times on the football field.
