 2016 Preview 


       Last year Georgiana captured the region 2 title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Georgiana lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a strong Maplesville team by a score of 36-28.

       Since 2010, Georgiana has gone a combined 26-38. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Georgiana has managed to compile a record of 139-134. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 1A and 176th in the AHSAA.

       The Panthers are led by head coach Ezell Powell who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 22-12 over the past three seasons at Georgiana. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Powell.

       Coach Powell's overall record as a head football coach in three seasons stands at 22-12 (64.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Powell's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times and won one region championship.

       The Panthers enter the 2016 season having won 9 straight region games.

      The Georgiana Panthers will play in Class 1A region 2 during the 2016 season.

       The Panthers should contend for a playoff spot in Region 2 this season.

       The Panthers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Loachapoka on Friday, August 19 at Loachapoka Stadium. Last year the Loachapoka Indians finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in second place in Class 1A region 3. The Indians lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Marengo by a score of 30-26.

       Georgiana and Loachapoka have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 3-0-0 record against the Indians. They last met in 2016 with Georgiana winning by a score of 44-22.

       Georgiana returns 1A All-State Junior linebacker Cameron Longmire. He was named to the first team last season.
