 2016 Preview 


       With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 3A region 1, the Jaguars earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Hillcrest made a nice playoff run in 2015, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Bayside Academy team by the score of 36-0.  The 429 points scored by the Jaguars last year were a team record in a single season.

       Since 2010, Hillcrest has gone a combined 33-34. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Hillcrest has managed to compile a record of 107-158. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 3A and 279th in the AHSAA.

       The Jaguars are led by head coach Clinton Smith who is entering his first season at the helm. His team finished with a 8-6 record in his first season at Hillcrest. Under his direction the Jaguars have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Smith.

       Coach Smith's overall record as a head football coach in one seasons stands at 8-6 (57.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Smith's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

      

      The Hillcrest Jaguars will play in Class 3A region 1 during the 2016 season.

      

       The Jaguars open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Linden on Friday, August 26 at Brooks Memorial Stadium. Last year the Linden Patriots finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in second place in Class 1A region 4. The Patriots lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Maplesville by a score of 50-19.

       Hillcrest and Linden have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 2-2-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2020 with Linden winning by a score of 28-12.
