Monroe Academy completed the 2015 season with a 13-1 record. The Volunteer cruised through the regular season with a perfect 11-0 record going into the post season. Last year Monroe Academy captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class AAA playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Last year the Monroe Academy Volunteer reached the AISA-AAA State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Bessemer Academy in the State Championship game 34-6 in Troy. No team at Monroe Academy ever won more games in a season than the thirteen victories last year. Over the past two seasons the Volunteer have gone 24-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Monroe Academy has gone a combined 70-8. Their 90.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class AAA over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Monroe Academy has managed to compile a record of 184-103. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class AAA and 7th in the AISA. Their last losing season was 2006. The Volunteer are led by head coach Mitchell Tuberville who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 99-24 over the past ten seasons at Monroe Academy. Under his direction the Volunteer have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times. They have won seven region crowns with Coach Tuberville. Coach Tuberville has won two state championships at Monroe Academy, the last coming in 2013. Coach Tuberville's overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 99-24 (80.5%). Coach Tuberville can top the 100 win milestone early in the season with just one more victory. The Monroe Academy Volunteer will play in Class AAA region two during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Volunteer remain in AAA but move from region one over to region two. The Volunteer enter the 2016 season riding a 15 game regular season winning streak. Monroe Academy has won 8 consecutive region games. They have won 21 straight games on their home turf at Volunteer Stadium. While most teams rebuild during the off season, Monroe Academy has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Volunteer enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one of the favorites not only in their region but to play in the AISA title game in November. The Volunteer have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 2007 and this year should be no exception. The Volunteer open the 2016 season on a neutral field against non-region opponent Bessemer Academy on Friday, August 19 at . Last year the Bessemer Academy Rebels finished with an overall record of 13-0 and in first place in Class AAA region two. The Rebels won the Class AAA State Championship last season when they defeated Monroe Academy by a score of 34-6 in Troy. Monroe Academy and Bessemer Academy have met a total of 27 times on the football field. The Volunteer have a 12-15-0 record against the Rebels. They last met in 2015 with Bessemer Academy winning by a score of 34-6. Monroe Academy returns AISA All-State Junior receiver Dalton McKenzie.
