 2016 Preview 


       Pickens Academy completed the 2015 season with a 6-6 record. With their 2-2 region record and a third place finish in Class AA region one, the Pirates earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Last year Pickens Academy reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Marengo Academy team by the score of 48-7.

       Since 2010, Pickens Academy has gone a combined 37-31. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class AA over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Pickens Academy has gone a combined 197-90. Their 69.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class AA and 3rd in the AISA. The Pirates have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time.

Josh Thacker stepped down as the head football coach of Pickens Academy in April after three seasons with the program. His teams compiled an 18-16 record at the private school.


Wade Goodman has been named as the head football coach at Pickens Academy. He has served a variety of positions with the sports program at Pickens.



       The Pickens Academy Pirates will play in Class AA region two during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Pirates remain in AA but move from region one over to region two.

       The Pirates will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region two this season.

       The Pirates open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent North River Christian on Friday, August 26 at Billy McGee Stadium. Last year the North River Christian Chargers finished with an overall record of 6-3 and in place in Class 8 Man region twenty-two. The Chargers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Ezekiel Academy by a score of 58-56 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Pickens Academy and North River Christian have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Pirates have a 2-0-0 record against the Chargers. They last met in with

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Parrish scored a record 77 points in a playoff game against Cedar Bluff in 2001. The Tornados were shutout the following week 19-0 by Courtland.
