2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wilson completed the 2016 season with a 8-3 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 4A region eight, the Warriors earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Wilson's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to North Jackson by a score of 41-7. The Warriors last playoff victory came during the 1998 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The defense was very stingy last season as Wilson ranked 18th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 13.7 points a game. Since 2010, Wilson has gone a combined 37-36. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 4A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Wilson has managed to compile a record of 127-143. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 4A and 221st in the AHSAA. The Warriors are led by head coach Scott Brown who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 33-20 over the past five seasons at Wilson. Under his direction the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Brown. Coach Brown's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 33-20 (62.3%). The Wilson Warriors will play in Class 4A region eight during the 2017 season. The Warriors will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region eight this season. The Warriors open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Sheffield on Thursday, August 24 at Warrior Stadium. Last year the Sheffield Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in second place in Class 2A region eight. The Bulldogs lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to LaFayette by a score of 40-34. Wilson and Sheffield have met a total of 22 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 7-15-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2016 with Wilson winning by a score of 17-14. Wilson returns 4A All-State Senior defensive back Avery Moates. He was named to the first team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
