Piedmont won their second state title in 2015 with a convincing 44-7 win over Bayside Academy in Tuscaloosa. The team set a school record for wins with a 14-1 record. They followed that up with a repeat championship in 2016.
Entering the 2024 season as a head football coach, his teams have produced nineteen 10 win seasons and qualified for the playoffs each year except his first at Cedar Bluff.
His teams finished with undefeated regular seasons 1997, 2005, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2019.
Smith moved to Westbrook Christian in 2023 where he takes over the football program.
Coach Smiths overall record in 29 seasons is 288-86 and 62-22 in the playoffs. His 157-24 region record ranks among the best in the state. His teams have also won sixteen region titles.
Smith served as an assistant coach on the 2008 and 2016 Alabama-Mississippi all-start team. He was the head coach of the North team in North-South All-Star game in 2013 and an assistant coach in 2003. Coach Smith was named the Class 3A Coach of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in 2009.
