 2018 Preview 


       Aliceville completed the 2017 season with a 7-5 record. Last year Aliceville captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Aliceville reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Luverne by a score of 34-30.

       The Yellow Jackets had some tough luck last season as they lost five games, all by less than eight points. The Yellow Jackets hope to get back closer to the 13-2 record in 2016.

       Since 2010, Aliceville has gone a combined 79-39. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 29 seasons, Aliceville has gone a combined 215-89. Their 71.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 2A and 38th in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time.




       The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Melvin Pete Jr. who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 7-5 record in his first season at Aliceville. Under his direction the Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Pete Jr..

       Coach Pete Jr.'s overall record as a head football coach in twelve season stands at 71-57 (55.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Pete Jr.'s teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times and won six region championships. Coach Pete Jr. won a state championship at in 2007.

       The Aliceville Yellow Jackets will play in Class 2A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Yellow Jackets remain in 2A but move from region four over to region five. The Yellow Jackets have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 59-51 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 2A and 116th in the AHSAA.

       The Yellow Jackets should be considered one of the favorites for the region five championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 1995 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

       The Yellow Jackets open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Gordo on Friday, August 31 at Green Wave Stadium. Last year the Gordo Green Wave finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 3A region four. The Green Wave lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to Mobile Christian by a score of 24-0.

       Aliceville and Gordo have met a total of 69 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 26-41-2 record against the Green Wave. They last met in 2017 with Gordo winning by a score of 21-20.

       Aliceville returns 2A All-State  athlete Kavon McGraw. He was named to the second team last season.
