2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Auburn completed the 2017 season with a 10-2 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 7A region two, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Auburn reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to McGill-Toolen by a score of 31-13. The defense was very stingy last season as Auburn ranked 8th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 10.2 points a game. Since 2010, Auburn has gone a combined 88-31. Their 74.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 7A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 29 seasons, Auburn has managed to compile a record of 196-99. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 7A and 68th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-four winning seasons during this time. The Tigers are led by head coach Adam Winegarden who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 25-11 over the past three seasons at Auburn. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Winegarden. Coach Winegarden's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 74-22 (77.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Winegarden's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won three region championships. The Auburn Tigers will play in Class 7A region two during the 2018 season. The Tigers enter the 2018 season riding a 7 game regular season winning streak. The Tigers should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Tigers have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2000 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Tigers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Wilcox Central on Friday, August 24 at Duck Samford Stadium. Last year the Wilcox Central Jaguars finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 5A region one. Auburn and Wilcox Central have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 2-0-0 record against the Jaguars. They last met in with Auburn returns 7A All-State defensive lineman Mohamoud Diabate. He was named to the first team last season.
