Childersburg completed the 2017 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region three, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Childersburg's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Andalusia by a score of 42-14. It marked the first time since the 2014 season that the Tigers qualified for the playoffs. Since 2010, Childersburg has gone a combined 33-52. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Childersburg has managed to compile a record of 97-151. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 4A and 294th in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Jonathan Beverly who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-13 over the past two seasons at Childersburg. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Beverly. Coach Beverly's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 10-21 (32.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Beverly's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time . The Childersburg Tigers will play in Class 4A region four during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 4A but move from region three over to region four. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Tigers will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region four this season. The Tigers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Shelby County on Friday, August 24 at John Cox Stadium. Last year the Shelby County Wildcats finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in seventh place in Class 5A region five. The Wildcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Jemison by a score of 28-27. Childersburg and Shelby County have met a total of 37 times on the football field.
