2018 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Choctaw County finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 1-8 record. Last year Choctaw County finished seventh in Class 2A region one with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2003 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 1999 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Choctaw County averaged scoring just 9.2 points a game. The Tigers also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 43.8 points a game. The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-17 record. Since 2010, the Choctaw County football program has struggled with a record of 16-62. Over the past 25 seasons, Choctaw County has not won much with a record of 70-169. Their 29.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 2A and 342nd in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2001. The Tigers are led by head coach Charles Chaney who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 5-33 over the past four seasons at Choctaw County. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Chaney. Coach Chaney's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 7-41 (14.6%). The Choctaw County Tigers will play in Class 2A region one during the 2018 season. The Tigers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 62-51 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 2A and 91st in the AHSAA. This season, the Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one. The Tigers open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent T.R. Miller on Friday, August 31 at Municipal Stadium. Last year the T.R. Miller Tigers finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 3A region one. The Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to W.S. Neal by a score of 27-17. Choctaw County and T.R. Miller have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 1-6-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2009 with T.R. Miller winning by a score of 40-14. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
