2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Crossville completed the 2017 season with a 4-7 record. With their 3-4 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 5A region seven, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Crossville's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Briarwood by a score of 62-0. It marked the first time since the 2004 season that the Lions qualified for the playoffs. The Lions last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Crossville struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 36.5 points a game. Since 2010, the Crossville football program has struggled with a record of 21-60. Over the past 25 seasons, Crossville has managed to compile a record of 117-139. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 5A and 230th in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2010. The Lions will be under the direction of new head football coach Dusty Darnell as they enter the 2018 season. The Crossville Lions will play in Class 5A region six during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Lions remain in 5A but move from region seven over to region six. The Lions enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Lions could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season. The Lions open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Geraldine on Saturday, August 25 at Crossville Memorial Stadium. Last year the Geraldine Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 3A region seven. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Piedmont by a score of 26-6. Crossville and Geraldine have met a total of 101 times on the football field. The Lions have a 57-41-3 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2017 with Geraldine winning by a score of 35-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
