2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Demopolis completed the 2017 season with a 11-3 record. Last year Demopolis captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Demopolis made a nice playoff run in 2017, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good St. Pauls team by the score of 20-19. The Tigers won as many games as in any season since 2009. The defense was very stingy last season as Demopolis ranked 11th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 10.4 points a game. Since 2010, Demopolis has gone a combined 66-29. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 5A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Demopolis has gone a combined 215-73. Their 75.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 5A and 13th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-four winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 1994. The Tigers are led by head coach Brian Seymore who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 11-3 record in his first season at Demopolis. The Tigers saw improvement from a 7-4 record the season before coach Seymore arrived. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Seymore. Coach Seymore's overall record as a head football coach in twelve season stands at 80-51 (61.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Seymore's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won three region championships. The Demopolis Tigers will play in Class 5A region three during the 2018 season. The Tigers should be considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Tigers are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Tigers have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 1995 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Tigers open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Tuscaloosa County on Friday, August 24 at Wildcat Field. Last year the Tuscaloosa County Wildcats finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in eighth place in Class 7A region three. Demopolis and Tuscaloosa County have met a total of 14 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 4-10-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 1989 with Tuscaloosa County winning by a score of 42-0. Demopolis returns 5A All-State defensive back C.J. Williams. He was named to the second team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
