 2018 Preview

Douglas finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Douglas finished eighth in Class 5A region seven with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Eagles lost as many games as in any season since 2006. The Eagles have not qualified for the playoffs since the 1998 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Douglas averaged scoring just 7.1 points a game. The Eagles also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 47.9 points a game.

The Eagles would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Douglas football program has struggled with a record of 22-58.

Over the past 25 seasons, Douglas has not won much with a record of 64-178. Their 26.0% winning percentage ranks 57th in Class 5A and 360th in the AHSAA. The Eagles have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time.

The Eagles are led by head coach Bryan Jennings who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 0-10 record in his first season at Douglas. The Eagles have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Jennings.

Coach Jennings' overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 44-52 (45.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Jennings' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times and won two region championships.

The Douglas Eagles will play in Class 5A region six during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in 5A but move from region seven over to region six.

The Eagles enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 15 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

This season, the Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region six. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Douglas will be to simply win some games.

The Eagles open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent D.A.R. on Friday, August 31 at Authur Jarvis Stadium. Last year the D.A.R. Patriots finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in seventh place in Class 4A region seven. The Patriots ended last season on a positive note with a win over Brindlee Mountain by a score of 50-6 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Douglas and D.A.R. have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 4-12-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2017 with D.A.R. winning by a score of 57-7.
