2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
East Lawrence finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year East Lawrence finished eighth in Class 3A region eight with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 459 points last season. The Eagles have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2008 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as East Lawrence averaged scoring just 4.9 points a game. The Eagles also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 45.9 points a game. The Eagles would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, the East Lawrence football program has struggled with a record of 15-65. Over the past 25 seasons, East Lawrence has not won much with a record of 62-181. Their 26.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 3A and 361st in the AHSAA. The Eagles have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 1997. The Eagles will be under the direction of new head football coach James Moore as they enter the 2018 season. Coach Moore's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 9-12 (42.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Moore's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time and won one region championship. The East Lawrence Eagles will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2018 season. The Eagles enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 11 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at East Lawrence will be to simply win some games. The Eagles open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent St. John Paul II on Friday, August 31 at Eagle Stadium. Last year the St. John Paul II Falcons finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 5A region eight. The Falcons ended last season on a positive note with a win over Clements by a score of 16-13 after failing to gain a playoff spot. East Lawrence and St. John Paul II have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 0-2-0 record against the Falcons.
