2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fairhope completed the 2017 season with a 8-3 record. With their 7-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 7A region one, the Pirates earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Fairhope's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Lee Montgomery by a score of 28-7. It marked the first time since the 2014 season that the Pirates qualified for the playoffs. The Pirates hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Carter saw improvement as they won eight games following a 2-8 record in 2016. Since 2010, Fairhope has gone a combined 61-31. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 7A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Fairhope has managed to compile a record of 152-113. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 7A and 120th in the AHSAA. The Pirates are led by head coach Tim Carter who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 16-15 over the past three seasons at Fairhope. Under his direction the Pirates have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Carter. Coach Carter's overall record as a head football coach in sixteen season stands at 114-68 (62.6%). His 114 wins rank 48th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Carter's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times and won four region championships. The Fairhope Pirates will play in Class 7A region one during the 2018 season. The Pirates should be considered one of the favorites for the region one championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Pirates open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Wetumpka on Friday, August 24 at Hohenburg Field. Last year the Wetumpka Indians finished with an overall record of 13-2 and in first place in Class 6A region three. The Indians lost in the Class 6A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Pinson Valley. They final score was 31-10 in the Super Seven finals in Auburn. Fairhope and Wetumpka have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Pirates have a 0-3-0 record against the Indians. They last met in 2007 with Wetumpka winning by a score of 62-35. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
