2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Goshen completed the 2017 season with a 12-2 record. Last year Goshen captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-1 record. It was the first region championship for the Eagles since the 2001 season. Goshen made a nice playoff run in 2017, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Leroy team by the score of 28-21. No team at Goshen ever won more games in a season than the twelve victories last year. The 497 points scored by the Eagles last year were a team record in a single season. The defense was very stingy last season as Goshen ranked 29th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 13.2 points a game. Since 2010, Goshen has gone a combined 56-37. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Goshen has managed to compile a record of 141-121. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 2A and 148th in the AHSAA. The Eagles are led by head coach Bart Snyder who is entering his tenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 64-41 over the past nine seasons at Goshen. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have won one region crown with Coach Snyder. Coach Snyder's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 64-41 (61.0%). The Goshen Eagles will play in Class 2A region three during the 2018 season. The Eagles have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 59-53 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 2A and 124th in the AHSAA. The Eagles enter the 2018 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak. The Eagles should be considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Eagles are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Eagles have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2007 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Eagles open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Ariton on Friday, August 31 at Goshen Field. Last year the Ariton Purple Cats finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 2A region two. The Purple Cats lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Leroy by a score of 35-21. Goshen and Ariton have met a total of 27 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 10-17-0 record against the Purple Cats. They last met in 2017 with Goshen winning by a score of 28-10. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
