2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Greene County completed the 2017 season with a 5-4 record. Last year Greene County just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 3A region four with a 2-4 region record. The Tigers improved in 2017 with their first winning season since 2011. The Tigers won as many games as in any season since 2011. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, Greene County has gone a combined 27-52. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 18 seasons, Greene County has managed to compile a record of 73-109. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 3A and 278th in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach KaRon Coleman who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 5-4 record in his first season at Greene County. The Tigers saw improvement from a 3-6 record the season before coach Coleman arrived. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Coleman. Coach Coleman's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 5-4 (55.6%). The Greene County Tigers will play in Class 3A region four during the 2018 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Tigers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region four this season. Greene County has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2011 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Tigers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Central Tuscaloosa on Friday, August 31. Last year the Central Tuscaloosa Falcons finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 5A region three. The Falcons closed out the regular season with a loss to Northridge by a score of 33-26. Greene County and Central Tuscaloosa have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 0-4-0 record against the Falcons. They last met in 2007 with Central Tuscaloosa winning by a score of 72-38. Greene County returns 3A All-State quarterback KaRon Coleman Jr.. He was named to the second team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
