2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Holt finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Holt finished seventh in Class 4A region four with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Ironmen have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2004 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Ironmen last playoff victory came during the 1998 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Holt averaged scoring just 4.4 points a game. The Ironmen also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 50.9 points a game. The Ironmen would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Holt football program has struggled with a record of 11-69. Over the past 25 seasons, Holt has not won much with a record of 73-172. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 3A and 340th in the AHSAA. The Ironmen have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 1998. The Ironmen are led by head coach Bruce Jackson who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 1-19 over the past two seasons at Holt. The Ironmen have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Jackson. Coach Jackson's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 28-54 (34.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Jackson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The Holt Ironmen will play in Class 3A region four during the 2018 season. The Ironmen may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 4A to 3A. They will compete in region four this year. The Ironmen enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 6 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Ironmen will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. The Ironmen open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Autaugaville on Friday, August 31 at Eagles Nest Stadium. Last year the Autaugaville Eagles finished with an overall record of 2-7 and in sixth place in Class 1A region three. The Eagles closed out the regular season with a loss to R.C. Hatch by a score of 60-22. Holt and Autaugaville have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Ironmen have a 2-0-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 1927 with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
