2018 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hooper Academy completed the 2017 season with a 6-5 record. The Colts improved in 2017 with their first winning season since 2011. The Colts won as many games as in any season since 2011. The Colts last playoff victory came during the 1997 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, Hooper Academy has gone a combined 28-59. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class AA over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hooper Academy has managed to compile a record of 94-160. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class AA and 32nd in the AISA. The Colts are led by head coach Duane McWhorter who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-5 record in his first season at Hooper Academy. The Colts saw improvement from a 4-6 record the season before coach McWhorter arrived. The Colts have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach McWhorter. Coach McWhorter's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 27-32 (45.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach McWhorter's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The Hooper Academy Colts will play in Class AA region two during the 2018 season. The Colts may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class AAA to AA. They will compete in region two this year. It will be an uphill battle for the Colts if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season. Unfortunately, Hooper Academy finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. The Colts open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Macon-East Academy on Friday, August 24 at Knight Field. Last year the Macon-East Academy Knights finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class AA region one. The Knights lost in the semi-finals round of the Class AA playoffs to Escambia Academy by a score of 50-13. Hooper Academy and Macon-East Academy have met a total of 24 times on the football field. The Colts have a 7-17-0 record against the Knights. They last met in 2017 with Macon-East Academy winning by a score of 6-0. Hooper Academy returns AISA All-State linebacker Grant Tyson. He was named to the first team last season. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
