 2018 Preview 


       Jacksonville completed the 2017 season with a 8-4 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region five, the Golden Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Jacksonville reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Fayette County by a score of 32-16.

       The 390 points scored by the Golden Eagles last year were a team record in a single season.

       Since 2010, Jacksonville has gone a combined 48-39. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Jacksonville has managed to compile a record of 116-131. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 4A and 220th in the AHSAA.




       The Golden Eagles are led by head coach Clint Smith who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 44-23 over the past six seasons at Jacksonville. Under his direction the Golden Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Smith.

       Coach Smith's overall record as a head football coach in sixteen season stands at 101-70 (59.1%). His 101 wins rank 62nd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Smith's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times and won one region championship. Coach Smith won a state championship at in 2000.

       The Jacksonville Golden Eagles will play in Class 4A region six during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Golden Eagles remain in 4A but move from region five over to region six.

       The Golden Eagles enter the 2018 season riding a 7 game regular season winning streak.

       The Golden Eagles should be in contention for a playoff spot in region six this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Golden Eagles open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent J.B. Pennington on Friday, August 24 at W.R. Sutton Memorial Stadium. Last year the J.B. Pennington Tigers finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in second place in Class 3A region six. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to Piedmont by a score of 28-13.

Collinsville completed the 1931 season with a record of 1-4-5. The five ties will forever be a state record since all games are now decided by overtime.
