2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
John Carroll finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year John Carroll finished seventh in Class 6A region five with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Cavaliers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2009 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Cavaliers last playoff victory came during the 2004 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The Cavaliers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, the John Carroll football program has struggled with a record of 17-63. Over the past 25 seasons, John Carroll has managed to compile a record of 102-152. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 5A and 279th in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2010. The Cavaliers are led by head coach Logan Colafrancesco who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 3-17 over the past two seasons at John Carroll. The Cavaliers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Colafrancesco. Coach Colafrancesco's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 3-17 (15.0%). The John Carroll Cavaliers will play in Class 5A region four during the 2018 season. The Cavaliers may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 6A to 5A. They will compete in region four this year. The Cavaliers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 71-45 last season. That ranks 5th in Class 5A and 25th in the AHSAA. This season, the Cavaliers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. The Cavaliers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent St. Clair County on Friday, August 24 at John Carroll Field. Last year the St. Clair County Fighting Saints finished with an overall record of 10-4 and in third place in Class 5A region five. The Fighting Saints lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 5A playoffs to Briarwood by a score of 37-33. John Carroll and St. Clair County have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Cavaliers have a 7-5-0 record against the Fighting Saints. They last met in 2015 with St. Clair County winning by a score of 39-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
