 2018 Preview

Lamar County completed the 2017 season with a 8-5 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region eight, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Lamar County lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Lanett team by a score of 48-7.

Since 2010, Lamar County has gone a combined 53-38. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 3A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Lamar County has managed to compile a record of 130-136. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 3A and 189th in the AHSAA.

The Bulldogs are led by head coach Robert Bradford who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 8-5 record in his first season at Lamar County. The Bulldogs saw improvement from a 6-5 record the season before coach Bradford arrived. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bradford.

Coach Bradford's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 35-39 (47.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Bradford's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times .

The Lamar County Bulldogs will play in Class 3A region four during the 2018 season. The Bulldogs move up in classification to Class 3A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. The Bulldogs have one of the toughest schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 66-47 last season. That ranks 5th in Class 3A and 52nd in the AHSAA.

The Bulldogs should be considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

The Bulldogs open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent South Lamar on Friday, August 24 at J.C. McAdams Field. Last year the South Lamar Stallions finished with an overall record of 10-4 and in second place in Class 1A region five. The Stallions lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Pickens County by a score of 35-7.

Lamar County returns 2A All-State  offensive lineman Gable Allred. He was named to the second team last season.
