 2018 Preview 


       Lawrence County completed the 2017 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-4 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 5A region eight, the Red Devils earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Lawrence County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Mortimer Jordan by a score of 28-12.

       The Red Devils last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, Lawrence County has gone a combined 31-52. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 5A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Lawrence County has managed to compile a record of 106-145. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 5A and 261st in the AHSAA.




       The Red Devils are led by head coach Rich Dutton who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 27-36 over the past six seasons at Lawrence County. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Dutton.

       Coach Dutton's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 27-36 (42.9%).

       The Lawrence County Red Devils will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Red Devils remain in 5A but move from region eight over to region seven.

       The Red Devils will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region seven this season.

       The Red Devils open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Madison Academy on Friday, August 31 at Bill Washington Stadium. Last year the Madison Academy Mustangs finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 4A region seven. The Mustangs lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Hokes Bluff by a score of 12-10.

       Lawrence County and Madison Academy have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 0-2-0 record against the Mustangs. They last met in with
