2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lexington finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Lexington just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 3A region eight with a 3-4 region record. Lexington took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2012. The Golden Bears lost as many games as in any season since 2007. The Golden Bears hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just three games which followed a 8-4 record in 2016. Lexington was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Golden Bears want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.2 points a game. Since 2010, Lexington has gone a combined 46-42. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lexington has managed to compile a record of 138-124. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 3A and 153rd in the AHSAA. The Golden Bears are led by head coach Jason Lard who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 46-42 over the past eight seasons at Lexington. Under his direction the Golden Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lard. Coach Lard's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 46-42 (52.3%). The Lexington Golden Bears will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2018 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Golden Bears could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season. Lexington came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Golden Bears open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Rogers on Friday, August 31 at Pirate Field. Last year the Rogers Pirates finished with an overall record of 11-1 and in first place in Class 4A region eight. The Pirates lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Hokes Bluff by a score of 12-0. Lexington and Rogers have met a total of 63 times on the football field. The Golden Bears have a 33-28-2 record against the Pirates. They last met in 2017 with Rogers winning by a score of 28-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
