 2018 Preview 


       Luverne completed the 2017 season with a 10-3 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region three, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Luverne lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Leroy team by a score of 38-20.

       Since 2010, Luverne has gone a combined 61-32. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Luverne has gone a combined 203-95. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 2A and 43rd in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.




       The Tigers are led by head coach Scott Rials who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 23-12 over the past three seasons at Luverne. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Rials.

       Coach Rials' overall record as a head football coach in twenty season stands at 147-81 (64.5%). His 147 wins rank 28th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Rials' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fifteen times and won four region championships. Coach Rials won a state championship at in 2011.

       Coach Rials needs three wins this season to reach the 150 win milestone.

       The Luverne Tigers will play in Class 2A region three during the 2018 season.

       The Tigers enter the 2018 season riding a 7 game regular season winning streak.

       The Tigers should be considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Tigers have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 1982 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

       The Tigers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Georgiana on Friday, August 31 at Glenn Daniel Stadium. Last year the Georgiana Panthers finished with an overall record of 11-1 and in first place in Class 1A region two. The Panthers lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Marengo by a score of 18-0.

       Luverne and Georgiana have met a total of 61 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 38-21-2 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2011 with Luverne winning by a score of 50-20.

       Luverne returns 2A All-State  linebacker Arian Gregory. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Tigers also return  defensive back Ellian Harris. He was named to the first team. The Tigers also return  receiver Satyler Wilson. He was named to the honorable mention team.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Collinsville completed the 1931 season with a record of 1-4-5. The five ties will forever be a state record since all games are now decided by overtime.
