2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Madison County completed the 2017 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Madison County just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region seven with a 2-4 region record. Madison County took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2011. The Tigers lost as many games as in any season since 2011. Since 2010, Madison County has gone a combined 53-38. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 5A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Madison County has managed to compile a record of 122-134. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 5A and 214th in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Scott Sharp who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 10-11 over the past two seasons at Madison County. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Sharp. Coach Sharp's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 39-38 (50.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Sharp's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times . The Madison County Tigers will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2018 season. The Tigers move up in classification to Class 5A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. With a little luck and some improvement, the Tigers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season. Madison County came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Tigers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Buckhorn on Friday, August 24 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Buckhorn Bucks finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in seventh place in Class 7A region four. The Bucks ended last season on a positive note with a win over North Jackson by a score of 40-14 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Madison County and Buckhorn have met a total of 43 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 13-30-0 record against the Bucks. They last met in 2003 with Buckhorn winning by a score of 38-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
