Marbury completed the 2017 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region three, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Marbury's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to St. Pauls by a score of 48-6. The Bulldogs won as many games as in any season since 2011. It marked the first time since the 2008 season that the Bulldogs qualified for the playoffs. Marbury was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bulldogs want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.2 points a game. Since 2010, Marbury has gone a combined 27-54. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 49th in Class 5A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Marbury has managed to compile a record of 110-137. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 5A and 246th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs are led by head coach James Brothers who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-14 over the past two seasons at Marbury. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Brothers. Coach Brothers' overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 25-37 (40.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Brothers' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The Marbury Bulldogs will play in Class 5A region three during the 2018 season. The Bulldogs will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region three this season. The Bulldogs open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Montevallo on Friday, August 24 at Theron Fisher Stadium. Last year the Montevallo Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 3A region four. The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a loss to Fultondale by a score of 28-6. Marbury and Montevallo have met a total of 10 times on the football field.
