2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
New Hope finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year New Hope finished sixth in Class 3A region seven with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Indians lost as many games as in any season since 2004. The defense allowed a team record 410 points last season. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as New Hope averaged scoring just 7.1 points a game. The Indians also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 41.0 points a game. Since 2010, New Hope has gone a combined 37-46. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, New Hope has managed to compile a record of 93-150. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 3A and 296th in the AHSAA. The Indians will be under the direction of new head football coach Bart Stephenson as they enter the 2018 season. Coach Stephenson's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 18-34 (34.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Stephenson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The New Hope Indians will play in Class 3A region seven during the 2018 season. The Indians enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. It will be an uphill battle for the Indians if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. After just a single win last year, New Hope will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. The Indians open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Holly Pond on Friday, August 24 at Holly Pond Stadium. Last year the Holly Pond Broncos finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in fourth place in Class 3A region six. The Broncos lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to West Morgan by a score of 35-0. New Hope and Holly Pond have met a total of 14 times on the football field. The Indians have a 6-8-0 record against the Broncos. They last met in 2013 with New Hope winning by a score of 46-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
